Membranes Live in London At the Lexington in Islington On November 5th First London show for 20 years! ?Bonfire Night Special? With the Wolfhounds and Monkey Island Tickets from http://www.wegottickets.com The legendary eighties UK underground, discordant, noisenik band the Membranes, who reformed last year for a triumphant gig at All Tomorrows Parties festival, will be playing a special one off gig in London on November 5th. The band, whose command of noise and invention of ?bass science? saw them record a series of key, influential releases in the eighties have been playing choice gigs trying to keep up with the international demand generated by the ATP show. With gigs already played in Istanbul and others lined up in Brazil, China and the USA the band?s reputation has grown internationally since their stint in the eighties. Formed in Blackpool in the punk era the Membranes went on to release several groundbreaking records in the post punk period which pre dated and were a massive influence on the American post hardcore noise scene of bands like Big Black, Sonic Youth etc. The early Mercury Rev were formed after seeing a Membranes show at CBGB?s and even Melvyn Bragg once described the band?s 1985 ?Death To Trad Rock? EP as one of the greatest ever art rock records. Their appearance on the Tube in 1985 galvanised a whole generation of like minded noisy British bands who have been recently documented in the recent critically acclaimed ?Death To Trad Rock? book. Since the band split in 1990 they have been mentioned as an influence by people as diverse as industrial bands, post punkers, rock bands like Therapy who covered one of their songs, punk bands and even unlikely figures like Beck and the aforementioned Mercury Rev. In the eighties the band were critical faves with several front cover features and John Peel plays and were recognised in America as a key band, They signed to Homestead records in the USA and toured several times there and their albums were recognised as top ten year end critical favourites. Pioneers of the discordant sound and with songs driven by the heaviest bass sound ever recorded, the Membranes recorded four albums, the first of which ?Gift of Life? was released by Creation records who the band were going to be the first signings to until they discovered that Creation couldn?t afford to put them in the studio. Their best selling album, ?Kiss Ass Godhead?, was to be the first record that Steve Albini recorded due to a mutual respect between Albini and the band. The ?Kiss Ass Godhead? album itself has been repackaged and will be re-released this autumn. firstname.lastname@example.org http://www.intoxica.co.uk
Popular music website ShockHound.com has just posted an entertaining video interview with Batusis' frontmen Sylvain Sylvain and Cheetah Chrome. In addition to offering up plenty of music from their critically-acclaimed debut EP, the piece also features the two rock legends dishing on their pasts with the New York Dolls and the Dead Boys as well as the future of Batusis. Check it out! http://www.shockhound.com/videos/1105-interview--batusis <http://www.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=940&e=7351E&c=10952&t=0&email=w7c7YEllE oo5UqTIxiyj3fB4VJVD6laFfMGPOVnZMlE%3D> The dynamic duo--who are backed by former Blackhearts bassist Sean Koos and drummer Lez Warner from The Cult--recently completed a 15-city east coast tour of the U.S. to resounding accolades from fans and press alike. The Big Takeover <http://www.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=941&e=7351E&c=10952&t=0&email=w7c7YEllE oo5UqTIxiyj3fB4VJVD6laFfMGPOVnZMlE%3D> reviewed their New York show, enthusing: "Guys like Syl Sylvain (New York Dolls) and Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys, Rocket From The Tombs) are still playing and getting it done...all fuzztone guitar and nasty attitude." Fans have been blowing up the band's Facebook page with comments like: @Veronique Tucker: "I was so impressed with the 2 shows I caught in Cleveland and Erie that I have been getting everyone to listen to my iPod with the 4 songs from the EP." @Bob Bonehead: "Catch them if you can! The DC show was great, my only regret is I could not make the Baltimore show the night before." @Tim Stoklas: "UNBELIEVABLE, WONDERFUL SHOW!" @Chassidy Chelsea: "I'm like a school girl, I'm so happy to get out and enjoy the music that has moved me for decades" @Maureen Welsh: "Best show in Philadelphia! Most fun I had in a long time!!!" Real Detroit Weekly wrote: "Batusis is the genre-warping brainchild of punk rock legends...They combine old school punk energy with surfy '60s vibes and finish it off with a nice crunch of fuzz." And summing up the enthusiastic response to the band's exciting live performances, Buzzbin proclaims: "Batusis prove punk is still alive!" The band will be following up their successful East Coast run with a West Coast tour in October before starting work on a full-length album (of all new material) due to be released in early 2011 on Smog Veil Records. To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Echo Beach being an international hit single, Martha and the Muffins have recorded a new version of the iconic song, along with a brand new song entitled ŒBig Day¹. Both songs are now available from iTunes and other leading digital download stores (http://tinyurl.com/2fxcm25). Read the official press release announcement http://www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/MarthaAndTheMuffins/echo-beach.htm Although founding Muffins member, Mark Gane was not aware of a real Echo Beach when he originally wrote the song in 1978, fans around the world have written to the band, asking them if it was about a particular beach or place. For the past 30 years the mystery has been a part of the song¹s universal and enduring appeal. "We recorded the new version of Echo Beach when we rehearsed for the Music Gallery concerts in Toronto last February,² says Gane. ³The reaction from the audience was really strong and people started asking us if we would release the new version commercially. The band did such a great job with the arrangement that we decided to take them into the studio and record the 30th anniversary version.² ³We wanted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the song, by not trying to replicate the version that we originally recorded, but as musicians who¹ve experienced three decades of living. We¹d like to refer to the new recording of Echo Beach as our Œgrown-up¹ version." To celebrate 30 anniversary of Echo Beach and the bonus track ŒBig Day¹, the Muffins will write and record a song about a big day in the life of one lucky fan. ³Celebrating 30 years of Echo Beach is a big day for us,² says Gane. ³We wanted to celebrate this achievement and give one of our fans a big day to look back on 30 years from now.² To enter the contest, fans are being asked to submit a 200 word story describing a big day in their life by emailing email@example.com.

Ska Heroes The Selecter return for an exclusive performance of seminal debut album On November 13th 2010 The Selecter will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut album, ŒToo Much Pressure¹, by performing the whole album live at one of London¹s premiere venues, The Bloomsbury Ballroom. ³Too Much Pressure² released by this important and influential band in Feb 1980 remains a classic touchstone for a generation of Ska lovers and the band are excited to announce they will be playing the album in its entirety plus a selection of other much loved Selecter tracks for the first time in nearly three decades. Mixing punk, ska and reggae, ŒToo Much Pressure¹ successfully reflected the social and political issues of the early Thatcher years and gave a voice to disaffected youth across the racial divide. This exclusive show will see the band fronted by the original duo of Arthur 'Gaps' Hendrickson and the female icon of the two-tone era Pauline Black. Classic hits like ŒThree Minute Hero¹, ŒMissing Words¹¹ ³ On My Radio² and of course ŒToo Much Pressure¹ will fill the beautiful, art-deco Bloomsbury Ballroom as one of the most vital, visceral and important Ska acts ever, deliver what promises to be a stunning performance and a must see for any Two-Tone fan. It turns out it won’t be all that much bigger than previous reunions after all. Slicing Up Eyeballs reports the band is set to play at a yet-to-be-revealed London date on September 28th. According to Trevor Horn, the performance, which will look to London’s Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, is a one-time event: “No tour is planned, no DVD or live CD will be released.”
In the first video ever played on MTV, the Buggles famously sang that “video killed the radio star.” That mantra has since become “internet killed the video star,” and the Buggles seem to be moving that way too. Singer/producer Trevor Horn posted a blog entry on his website titled “The Buggles Will Return 28.09.10,” telling fans to “Watch this space…” The man knows how to generate web buzz.
The Buggles have reunited before, once in 1998 and again in 2004 for a charity gig. The cryptic note suggests this might be something bigger, though. Will it be a concert? A tour? A new video? A remaster of their 1981 album Adventures in Modern Recording came out in February, with extensive new liner notes by Horn, so perhaps this is related.
We’ll post more details as they emerge. Until then, relive the golden age of MTV with, what else, “Video Killed the Radio Star”.

BAD RELIGION CULMINATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH 15TH STUDIO ALBUM IN SEPTEMBER Celebrating three decades of influential, thought provoking and groundbreaking punk rock, Bad Religion will release their fifteenth studio album, The Dissent of Man, on September 27. The album¹s first single ³The Devil in Stitches² made its debut on the world famous KROQ 106.7 in Los Angeles on Tuesday and can be heard now at www.myspace.com/badreligion <http://www.myspace.com/badreligion> . Fans can preorder The Dissent of Man now at www.BadReligionStore.com <http://www.BadReligionStore.com> . Produced by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool), The Dissent of Man finds Bad Religion pushing the boundaries of their music as much today as they did in their formative years as a genre defining punk band. Over the course of making the album, primary songwriters Greg Graffin and Brett Gurewitz¹s songwriting was informed by life changing events, with Graffin writing his forthcoming book ³Anarchy Evolution² (out Sept 28) and Gurewitz embarking on parenthood again. ³These are some of my favorite songs I¹ve ever written,² says Gurewitz. ³A few of them took me way outside my comfort zone as a writer to a place I haven¹t gone since Recipe or Stranger than Fiction.² The result is one of the band¹s most forward thinking and musically varied albums ever. The Dissent of Man is not only a snapshot of the band¹s personal experiences of the past years but also of their continued maturity in songwriting, capturing an array of styles ranging from blazing punk rock songs like the opener ³The Day That the Earth Stalled² and ³Meeting of the Minds² and classic rock-tinged cuts like ³Cyanide² and ³Turn Your Back on Me² to radio rock ready hits like the first single ³The Devil in Stiches.² ³I feel like the last couple of records have been amongst our most conservative, never straying too far from a Bad Religion sound,² adds Gurewitz. ³Whereas on this one we¹re taking the songs to a lot of different places, exploring our influences and trying out some new things in a way we haven¹t done in years.² The Dissent of Man is a testament to why Bad Religion has remained relevant for the better part of three decades. Already having cemented their place in history as a groundbreaking band who helped create a movement in Los Angeles with classic releases like How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, Suffer, Recipe for Hate, Stranger Than Fiction and Process of Belief, Bad Religion continue to inspire and create with a unique style that continues to cross boundaries and transcends genres. As Bad Religion wraps up their 30th anniversary, they open the next chapter of their storied career with The Dissent of Man. Stay tuned to www.badreligion.com <http://www.badreligion.com> and www.epitaph.com <http://www.epitaph.com> to hear new music from The Dissent of Man and for news about Bad Religion! CULT BAND ‘DEAF SCHOOL’ HIT THE ROAD WITH FIVE NEW SONGS ** FIVE new songs have been recorded by the legendary cult band Deaf School as they kick-off two London warm-up dates in advance of a summer festival appearance. The seven-piece band, who were formed in Liverpool in the 1970’s, made a triumphant return to live concerts last year with ten sell-out appearances, before going back into the studio to record new material. Front man Enrico Cadillac (aka Steve Allen) said: “The new songs are in the great tradition of Deaf School – big arrangements and big themes. We have really been on fire in the studio – these songs are amongst our best ever work.” Deaf School play the Dublin Castle in Camden Parkway next Thursday, August 5 th and Friday August 6th, before appearing at Newmarket’s Fordham Festival on Saturday August 7th. Other dates are already being lined up for the band, who last year drew celebrity fans such as Glen Matlock, Holly Johnson and Kevin Rowland to their live shows. Madness front man Suggs is also a regular – he is married to Deaf School vocalist Bette Bright. The Deaf School line-up includes leading record producer Clive Langer (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Madness, Morrisey) on guitar; the Rev Max Ripple (aka John Wood) the Head of Design at London’s Goldsmith’s College on keyboards, and Ian Ritchie, Pink Floyd’s favourite saxophonist. Journalist, author and founder of *Mojo*, Paul Du Noyer said: "In the whole history of Liverpool music two bands matter most, one is The Beatles and the other is Deaf School.” The cult band enjoy a fanatically loyal following, especially for their sometimes anarchic, but always intriguing and intricate live shows. Now the art school/punk/new wave band are hoping that their new material and live shows will win them a whole new generation of fans. Find out more at http://deafschoolmusic.com/
