WITH A reputation forged in fire, brimstone and magic, Killing Joke have long been one of rock’s most iconic & influential outfits.
Now, 30 years since first bonding in blood, the original line-up of Jaz Coleman (vocals), Geordie (guitar), Youth (bass) and Paul Ferguson (drums) are about to complete work on their 13th studio album, the first fruits of a new worldwide deal with the Spinefarm Records label, and word from inside the camp is that ‘XIII: Feast Of Fools’ is shaping up to be something very special indeed…
“We have survived equipment being hi-jacked, tapes being withheld, nervous breakdowns, family bereavements, blood lettings, and a host of other challenges of Biblical proportions,” comments Youth. “But we are now at the final ascent, and I have to say it’s one of the greatest albums I have ever had the privilege to be involved with… EVER! I have been living and breathing it for over four months now, and I’m still jaw-droppingly amazed at its power & beauty.
“It is with great pain that we had to make the decision to postpone the European & American tour until later in the year, but the wait will be worth it. I guarantee double orgasms all round when you hear the sound of Big Paul’s drum kit reducing your senses to a pulp!”
Produced by the band, mixed by engineer Clive Goddard, and now set for release on September 6th 2010, this latest set of recordings – put together in London, Spain & Prague – has seen the aforementioned musicians sharing studio space for the first time in 28 years, having already road-tested their relationship with sold-out shows around the world, kicking off in Tokyo last Autumn.
AS A RESULT of the new album moving back to September, the band have also rescheduled their two UK shows. The new dates are as follows:
15 UK Picture House, Edinburgh www.ticketweb.co.uk <http://www.ticketweb.co.uk>
16 UK Hammersmith Apollo, London www.ticketmaster.co.uk <http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk>
OVER THE years, the four musicians have chosen to develop their talents in a variety of ways: triple Grammy winner Jaz Coleman, for instance, has established an international reputation working with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras, whilst Martin ‘Youth’ Glover has become one of the UK’s most celebrated producers, supervising albums from the Verve & Primal Scream amongst others, as well as achieving major success as one half of highly-regarded duo, The Orb.
Covered by Metallica, Foo Fighters and more, Killing Joke’s apocalyptic vision continues to draw praise from such high-profile supporters as Jimmy Page and Billy Corgan, and the band’s considerable musical legacy can be heard in the works of Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and the like – artists whose rise to fame never saw them cutting ties with the underground/alternative scene.
Once described by Paul Ferguson as ‘the sound of the earth vomiting’, Killing Joke are now poised to take their music of resistance to a whole new level, both in the studio and on the road.
As ever, the journey won’t be easily forgotten… whether those involved wish to do so or not!

STAR FUCKING HIPSTERS Never Rest in Peace FORMAT: CD/LP LABEL: Alternative Tentacles RELEASE DATE: May 3, 2010 UK TOUR APRIL 27th LONDON - PURPLE TURTLE 28th MANCHESTER - STAR & GARTER 29th NEWCASTLE - DOG & PARROT 30th GLASGOW - CAPITOL MAY 1st DONCASTER - LEOPARD 2nd DERBY - OLD BELL Star Fucking Hipsters is a smoking-hot super group featuring Sturg "Stza" Crack (Leftover Crack, Choking Victim), Frank Piegaro (Degenerics), and Nico de Gallo (Casa de Chihuahua), with members from Ensign, Big Attack!, Awkward Thought, and Aloke along for the ride. Following their 2008 Fat Wreck Chords debut, the band has returned for a much fiercer second round of sonic glory! Never Rest in Peace is even crustier, combining melodic punk and metal with the token ska tune (featuring a guest appearance from Citizen Fish and Subhumans personnel). The album is the result of a year of star-fucking live shows, writing, and off-the-map creativity from central Hipster Stza. These tunes display a sharper edge to his rock-solid songwriting, with a couple of tracks that border on crustcore- style metal. Recorded off the clock and in record time by up-and-coming production wizard Ryan D. Jones (almost entirely in the band members' bedrooms at the world-famous C-Squat on New York's Lower East Side), and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Beastie Boys, Metallica, Ramones, Rancid, Nirvana, Slayer), Never Rest in Peace leaps out of the stereo and clubs your not-so-friendly neighbourhood cop with blunt anthems of rebellion and revolution. This is the best-sounding record Stza's done since Choking Victim's classic No Gods / No Managers. In addition to the songwriting chops, Star Fucking Hipsters' new record includes cameos from Dick Lucas, Jasper Pattison (both of Citizen Fish / Culture Shock), and Bryan Kienlen (Bouncing Souls). It features art by famed DIY artists Fly (PEOPs, Dog Dayz) and Paul Barron. The band has performed across the US and UK, and will co headline an upcoming November 2009 West Coast tour with Citizen Fish that will include Alternative Tentacles' 30th Anniversary Festival. 2010 promises much more of the same from these starfucking road-warriors. Leftover Crack Fuck World Trade (VIRUS320), Citizen Fish / Leftover Crack Split (VIRUS373) features current and former members of Leftover Crack, Choking Victim and Degenerics, plus guest appearances from Subhumans, Culture Shock, and Bouncing Souls personnel. Tracks : 1. Vol. II, 2. 3000 Miles Away, 3. Look Who's Talking Now!, 4. Design, 5. Church & Rape, 6. The Civilization Show, 7. Allergic II Peoples, 8. Dreams Are Dead, 9. THE LIVING END are still enjoying their well deserved break from touring. Following what was both a successful and extremely busy eighteen months for the band, The Living End are taking a break from the road in order to concentrate on the writing of their next long-player. Chris Cheney has been taking some time out in a snowy New York over the last month or so, writing some tunes and enjoying his break. He wrote an update to fans last month saying: “It’s never been the easiest task to write on the road so we didn’t know quite how the first round (of demos) would turn out. We were pleasantly surprised. It’s hard to describe how they sound but we can say that we’re really excited thus far. Some are very TLE sounding and some are not, but we’ve been pushing ourselves to keep it powerful, epic and above all else ROCKIN’!” As 2010 progresses we shall see what The Living End have in store both in terms of touring and releases. But for now, all is quiet on this front.
California punk legends BAD RELIGION have announced plans to give away a free live album this spring to members of their mailing list. The band stated, “To celebrate three decades of BAD RELIGION, we’ll be recording a live album during our spring 2010 tour, and offering it as a free ‘thank you’ to the loyal fans who’ve been with us through all the sweet and mayhem. . . We’ll be playing a few tracks at the shows from our new album, coming this fall, so this will be a great way to get a preview of the new tunes.”
Kinks member Mick Avory has confirmed that the band are planning to release an album featuring old as-yet unreleased songs and possibly new material. The band, who officially split up in 1996, already have “eight tracks” lined up for a new LP, he said. “Things are always bubbling under or over with The Kinks,” the drummer told SpinnerMusic.co.uk. “We are certainly doing another album. We’ve got old tracks which need to be baked. You have to go through this process to transfer them to digital, it’s a bit of a process and you only get one shot at it.” He added, “We’ve certainly got eight tracks we could use there, so we’re going to have to do some more to make the numbers up for an album.” Speaking about the problems between band members Ray and Dave Davies, Avory added that the delay in releasing the new album was because of the brothers’ ongoing feud. “In our case it’s Ray and Dave that have got to work together,” he said. “Once they’ve slotted together, we can go ahead. All the while they are not wanting to do what the other wants to do, it goes nowhere.”
The Real McKenzies have announced plans to release a live acoustic album. Shine not Burn was recorded last year at Wild at Heart in Kreuzberg, Germany and is said to feature “acoustic guitars, penny whistles, 3-piece drums sets and upright basses, to drop the amplitude and try something new.” On a related note, much of the performance will be part of the band’s upcoming DVD, now titled The Real McKenzies Love You and slated for release sometime next month. More information regarding the release is expected soon.

GOGOL BORDELLO ANNOUNCE UK ALBUM RELEASE -'TRANS-CONTINENTAL HUSTLE' - APRIL 26 2010 ON AMERICAN RECORDINGS/COLUMBIA For Immediate Release: GOGOL BORDELLO¹S NEW ALBUM ŒTRANS-CONTINENTAL HUSTLE¹ PRODUCED BY RICK RUBIN SET FOR RELEASE ON AMERICAN RECORDINGS/COLUMBIA UK ON APRIL 26 Trans-Continental Hustle, the avidly-awaited fifth studio album from rebel rockers Gogol Bordello, will be released in the UK on American Recordings/Columbia on April 26th. Produced by Rick Rubin, Trans-Continental Hustle is an extraordinary 13-song powerhouse that continues the band¹s cultural crusade to unite and celebrate unending originality against all odds. Fans will have an opportunity to hear new material in a rare return to their original stomping grounds at The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza on March 9th in a benefit concert for Haiti Relief. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. On Trans-Continental Hustle Gogol Bordello bring us to a new exotic destination, Brazil, where frontman and visionary Eugene Hutz took up residence two years ago. Trans-Continental Hustle is heavily informed by Hutz¹s experiences living in a country rich with diversity. On Trans-Continental Hustle, Hutz¹s experience-driven-Gonzo-mania is transformed into a seeker of harmony and understanding. Songs on Trans-Continental Hustle bring the listener straight into the heart of the situation whether it be joining forces with gypsies of Brazil as on ³Uma Menina Uma Cigana,² melancholy strike in the midst of carnival near death experiences as on ³Sun on My Side² or themes of transcontinental love devastations. As one of today¹s most revered live bands with over 200 shows a year, Hutz¹s intense personal life appears on the album like a second plot, or Transcontinental Love hustle, running parallel to endless travel through continents. Produced by Rick Rubin, Trans-Continental Hustle is the next powerful step in the band¹s evolution. Rubin brings Eugene¹s songwriting skills to focus and also lets the band speak to its authenticity with deeper melodic qualities. ³Rick inspired us to focus on the very soul entity of the song,² says Hutz on working with Rubin for the first time. ³He inspires confidence to always do your best and mature work.² Gogol Bordello also introduces a driving rhythm section on songs such as ³Raise The Knowledge² and ³Last One Goes The Hope² with the arrival of drummer Oliver Charles, Ethiopian bassist Thomas Gobena (Bill Laswell) and Latino American percussionist Pedro Erazo-Segovia. Gogol Bordello¹s stellar line-up also includes Sergey Rjabtzev on violin, Yuri Lemeshev on accordion, Oren Kaplan on guitar, dancer/percussionists Elizabeth Sun and Pamela Jintana Racine as well as our fearless leader Eugene Hutz on vocals, guitar and percussion. Trans-Continental Hustle is the first Gogol Bordello studio album since 2007's SUPER TARANTA! which inspired the rarest of accolades, an "A+" from Robert Christgau, who called them "the world's most visionary band." Gogol Bordello's radical invocations of positive primal energy and planetary consciousness combine with a music infused with ska, metal, punk, rap, dub and, more recently, intimations of indigenous Brazilian sounds to produce a party maelstrom of electrifying proportions. Lou Reed has finalised details of the digitally re-mastered edition of his seminal 1975 album ³Metal Machine Music.² Reed will release the ground breaking album in the UK on April 19th on his independent label ³Sister Ray² in the following three formats double gatefold vinyl in quadraphonic sound, audio DVD and Blu-ray. The album coincides with Lou Reed¹s Metal Machine Trio UK concerts at the Cambridge Junction (April 17), Oxford O2 Academy (April 18) and London Royal Festival Hall (April 19, part of the Ether Festival). Lou did the digital re-mastering from the original multi-tracks with the help of world-renowned mastering guru, Scott Hull. This is a new and improved re-mastered version, and is different from all previous releases on the RCA, Buddha and Sony affiliated labels. Further info about the Metal Machine Music Re-mastered - http://www.loureed.com/metalmachinemusic/ Full details of ³Lou Reed¹s Metal Machine Trio² European Tour - www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/lou_reed/lou_reed_MM3.htm Says Reed, ³The out of print ³Quad² release has been replicated for all formats, including a perfect vinyl version playable on your stereo turntable with the original rear sections moved to the center of the front left/right speakers. It¹s worth getting a turntable to hear this. We worked from digital transfers (95k 24bit) made from the original analogue masters. The original label supplied us with these files and photo copies of the analogue reels including copies of Bob Ludwig¹s mastering notes.² Although the Metal Machine Music album will be reissued just in time for Reed¹s Metal Machine Trio UK concerts, MM3 will not perform music from the legendary album, but instead will perform music loosely based on, and inspired by, the 1975 album. Please visit www.loureed.com for further details.
