GuilFest 2010***

***Status Quo***

To Headline on Sun. July 18th

Status Quo, who have sold over 118 million records worldwide, recorded 64 British Hit Singles and had more hit albums (32) in the UK album charts than any other band apart from the Rolling Stones, have been confirmed to headline GuilFest on Sunday July 18th.

Status Quo have notched up 22 top ten UK singles since their first, ‘Pictures Of Matchstick Men’, reached number 7 in the UK chart in January 1968, spending over seven and a half years in the British singles chart in all.

Status Quo, who hold the record for the most appearances on Top Of The Pops (106!) promise to play a plethora of unforgettable rock’n’roll anthems such as ‘Paper Plane’, ‘Caroline’, ‘Down Down’, ‘Rockin’ All Over The World’, ‘Whatever You Want’, ‘The Wanderer’ and ‘In The Army Now’.

GuilFest has been consistently voted as one of the UK’s best family festivals.  Held in the idyllic location of Stoke Park, Guildford, visitors can expect a truly fantastic weekend, featuring 7 stages of live music hosting a mind blowing 200 great acts – including the now famous Rock Cave, featuring some of the best rock acts in the UK; and the Dance Tent – which in previous years has featured huge DJ sets from artists such as Rusko  and Pendulum.

It’s not just about the music at GuilFest though; around the site you can find the hilarious Cosmic Comedy Zone, the Theatre tent, the incredibly popular Farmer Giles Barn Dance, street theatre, arts and crafts, delicious food and drink from all over the globe, bars and cocktail bars, one of the best festival children’s areas on the circuit, The KidZone, and much more besides.  Also – back by popular demand and much larger for 2010 will be the jumping 70’s disco tent.

With Christmas just around the corner, this year the festival is offering a Christmas early bird ticket offer. 1000 weekend and camping tickets are now available at a reduced price with adult tickets reduced by £10 and Kids tickets reduced by £5.

On top of the early bird ticket, GuilFest is also offering a group discount!  For every 8 weekend or weekend and camping tickets purchased, festival goers will receive an extra one for free!

These offers are only available until Christmas Eve.

Tickets are available from / or by calling the ticket hotline on 0871 230 1106.

PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED 30TH ANNIVERSARY REMASTERED EDITION OF ŒMETAL BOX¹ PLUS REISSUE OF ŒPLASTIC BOX¹ To coincide with PiL¹s first tour in 17 years, on 14th December a special 3-CD remastered set of the band¹s groundbreaking ŒMetal Box¹ album will be released. Released in its original metal canister form in 1979, ŒMetal Box¹ was the band¹s second album following their ŒFirst Issue¹ debut. Built around the musical idiosyncrasies of founding members John Lydon, Jah Wobble and Keith Levene, ŒMetal Box¹ saw the band push and punish the boundaries of rock and post punk, creating an artistically uncompromising and challenging masterpiece. An avant garde and confrontational album, ŒMetal Box¹ crystallised the three band members tastes Lydon¹s brutally poetic lyrics and vocal performances over Wobble¹s dub reggae-inspired basslines (locked-down by the drumming of Dave Humphrey and Richard Dudanski) and Levene¹s metallic guitar sound creating a genuinely timeless record. The album touches on themes of resentment and murder, as well as incredibly personal experiences (Lydon¹s stark and harrowing vocal regarding his dying mother on ŒSwan Lake¹, an alternate version of the single ŒDeath Disco¹). Its lasting influence can be heard in the work of band¹s as diverse as Massive Attack, Manic Street Preachers and Primal Scream. The remastered edition will, for the first time ever, be released as the original vinyl was, in a 3-CD set, in a metal canister. On the same day the 4-CD compilation ŒPlastic Box¹ will be re-released. ŒPlastic Box¹ is a career-spanning collection of 64 tracks including rarities such as Peel Sessions and remixes. KILLING JOKE ORIGINAL LINE-UP CONFIRM NEW WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH SPINEFARM RECORDS 30th ANNIVERSARY TOUR AND STUDIO ALBUM TO FOLLOW EARLY NEXT YEARŠ With a reputation forged in fire, brimstone and magic, Killing Joke have long been one of rock¹s most iconic & influential outfits.   Now, 30 years since first bonding in blood, the original line-up of Jaz Coleman (vocals), Geordie (guitar), Youth (bass) and Paul Ferguson (drums) are set to start work on their 13th studio album the first fruits of a new worldwide deal with the Spinefarm Records label.   Set for release in April 2010, this latest set of recordings (title to be confirmed) will see the aforementioned musicians sharing studio space for the first time in 27 years, having already road-tested their relationship with sold-out shows around the world, kicking off in Tokyo last Autumn.   Over the years, the band members have chosen to develop their talents in a variety of ways: triple Grammy winner Jaz Coleman, for instance, has established an international reputation working with some of the world¹s greatest symphony orchestras, whilst Martin ŒYouth¹ Glover has become one of the UK¹s most celebrated producers, supervising albums from the Verve & Primal Scream amongst others, as well as achieving major success as one half of highly-regarded duo, The Orb.   Covered by Metallica, Foo Fighters and more, Killing Joke¹s apocalyptic vision continues to draw praise from such high-profile supporters as Jimmy Page and Billy Corgan, and the band¹s considerable musical legacy can be heard in the works of Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and the like artists whose rise to fame never saw them cutting ties with the underground/alternative scene.   Once described by Paul Ferguson as Œthe sound of the earth vomiting¹, Killing Joke are now poised to take their music of resistance to a whole new level, both in the studio and on the road.   As ever, the journey won¹t be easily forgottenŠ whether those involved wish to do so or not! Here Les, can you Lemmy £45m?

ROCK fan Les Scadding – rolling in it after a 45million lottery win – has celebrated his birthday by meeting Motorhead legend Lemmy.

Les and wife Sam went back stage at a gig and next day returned the favour by inviting the heavy metal group to their hotel suite for a champagne party.

A pal said: "Les is a die-hard fan and was blown away to meet Motorhead. He just keeps saying, ‘I can’t believe it’s real’."

Jobless trucker Les celebrated his 59th birthday with two 55 tickets for him and Sam, 38, for the concert in their home town of Newport, South Wales.

The next night the EuroMillions winners stayed at the five-star St David’s Hotel in Cardiff and swigged 100 bubbly with family and friends.

Les and Sam arrived in a 70,000 Range Rover Sport and hired a 500-a-night suite.

Then they found Lemmy, 63, and his band were staying too and invited them up.

Yesterday the couple had still not emerged at dusk – while Motorhead took their tour bus to their next show in Swindon, Wilts. As Les and Sam prepared for a Caribbean holiday, a friend said: "Les hasn’t celebrated his birthday in years as he never wanted to make a fuss. So it was a dream weekend for him."

The couple are keen to buy Led Zeppelin rocker Robert Plant’s 2.5million mansion, 12 miles from their 150,000 semi.

John Lydon Defends Butter Adverts

Ahead of PiL tour

Punk icon John Lydon has defended his much criticised appearance in adverts for butter firm Country Life.

It was the moment many fans thought they would never see. John Lydon spent the bulk of his career offending the establishment, releasing groundbreaking rock ‘n’ roll with The Sex Pistols and then Public Image Limited.

However last year the singer appeared in a series of adverts for butter firm Country Life. Lending his support to the campaign, many fans cried ‘sell out!’ at the one time punk hero.

Speaking to Camden New Journal, John Lydon explained that without the money from his appearance on the adverts he would not have been able to fund the Public Image Limited tour in December.

"The money I got from that advert is the advance on this," the singer explained.

Adding that he’s "living on the lucky end of a shoestring" the new tour is set to kick off with a date in Birmingham on December 15th.

Asked about the criticism he faced, John Lydon claimed that he felt no guilt over appearing in the Country Life campaign. "Why are they questioning me?" he said. "What manual am I supposed to adopt? I’m promoting a British product which I’m very proud of. Anything I can do to help British industry is fine by me and in return you’ve got PiL."

The punk icon went on to praise Take That mainman Gary Barlow, who coincidentally walked past as the interview was taking place. "He’s a fine lad, nothing wrong with him," remarked Lydon about the pop singer.

"I saw him on the Jonathan Ross show. I get on well with Jonathan Ross, I think he’s all right, and if he likes him he must be kosher."

Rock’n’roll art extravaganza!

R.A.R.E : Rock And Roll Expressionists
30.11.09 – 4.12.09 @ Resistance Gallery London

As the nights draw in and the temperature disappears into the minuses there isn’t much to inspire us Londoners to enter out into the dark ripperesque streets of East London. However at the wonderfully unique Resistance Gallery, a group of musicians come artists come musicians have something very special in store to show you – so why not come and take a peek?

Its not often that you can go to an exhibition where the artists themselves are nearly as exciting to look at as the exhibits on display. So imagine being in a room with the offspring of a legendary bank robber who specializes in the ancient art of death masks and who also happens to be in Alabama 3? Or how about meeting a modern day dandy, the original Dog D’amour, whose worldly travels, wild imagination and wayward experiences are intrinsically exorcised through his poetry, songs and exquisite artwork? What about meeting the former lady punk whose sultry dark eyes and bass lines were the epitome of cool in The Adverts back in ’77? and whose dreams and nightmares are retold through her unique art sometimes with the use of human remains? Then there is always the chance of meeting the iconic godfather of all things rockabilly merchandise-wise and whose midas touch has left its mark on practically every cool cat in Camden Town and who also does the odd gig or two with the Boneshakers? And last but not least how about having a drink with a geezer who is not only the guitarist of more bands than you can count on one hand – but whose tattoo stained glass designs are so dastardly – that if the devil had a church he would get this guy to do the windows?

Sound Tempting? Then come , see the work and hear the sounds of The Rock And Roll Expressionists.

This week long bonanza of aural pleasure and visual glory will begin on the evening of Monday 30th November (invite only) featuring The RARE house band!
Tuesday 1st – The Loyalties + Vince Ray and the Boneshakers
Wednesday 2nd – TV Smith (the Adverts) + Nick Reynolds, Alabama 3 (plus special guests)
Thursday 3rd – Tyla and the Dogs
Friday 4th – The event concludes with the return of the RARE house band and an extra late bar!!!

The event is sponsored by Triibe, so there will be complimentary drinks on certain nights.
For guaranteed admission to a specific night – email
Put ‘tickets please’ in the subject bar and give your name(s) for the guest list.

This is a RARE chance to see Rock’n’Roll art in a Rock’n’Roll enviroment.
