NEWTOWN NEUROTICS DOC PLANNED!

Legendary Essex punks THE NEWTOWN NEUROTICS are the be the subject of a new documentary.

Formed in Harlow in 1979 in direct response to the draconian right-wing policies of Thatcher’s government, and casting a spotlight on the urban ennui facing the youth in newtown England,  they lit a radical fire under the second wave of UK punk, fuelled by a series of rabble-rousing singles like the self-explanatory punk disco floorfiller ‘Kick Out The Tories’ and ‘Living With Unemployment’, and the classic albums Beggars Can Be Choosers and Kickstarting A Backfiring Nation.

The work of film-maker Luke Baker, Kick Out will tell the band’s story through the input of band members and other key figures, including Steve Lamacq, Phil Jupitus, Attila The Stockbroker and Billy Bragg.

Says Baker, “The aim of Kick Out is to capture the essence of the time, explore the events which molded the band’s worldview and examine their place in British music history.”

A crowdfunding page has been set up to enable Baker to complete the film and fans and wellwishers can contribute here.
