COCKNEY REJECTS RELEASE NEW SINGLE!

Any West Ham fans out there?

Lifelong Irons fans THE COCKNEY REJECTS have recorded a new single to mark their club’s departure from their Upton Park ground, the East London team’s home since 1904. The single ‘Goodbye Upton Park’ is due for release through Cadiz Music on Tuesday 10 May, the date of West Ham’s last home game at the ground, where the band will perform prior to kick-off.

The Rejects are currently enjoying a boost in profile since their late-70s heyday, thanks in part to the success of the documentary film East End Babylon.  Recently reuniting with former bassist Vinnie Riordan, following the  tragic death of Tony Van Frater, the band have just played two sell-out shows at the 100 Club, with festival dates lined up for the summer, including Bearded Theory, Northwest Calling and Rebellion.

BLACK BOMBERS VIDEO PREMIERE!

Fast-rising Birmingham rockers BLACK BOMBERS kickstart the countdown to the release of their long-awaited debut album with a brand new video, launched exclusively through Vive Le Rock!

‘Break It Down’ is the second single from the eponymously-named album which is being released through Easy Action Records on Friday 27 May. It’s available for pre-order on CD here and on iTunes here.

The video was directed by Poppy Twist of fellow Brummie garage-rockers TABLE SCRAPS.

With an impressive rock’n’roll CV that alights on THE DAMNED, THE HEARTBREAKERS, SWELL MAPS, THE PREFECTS, THE JACOBITES and West Midlands sleaze legends GUNFIRE DANCE, the band issued their debut vinyl single ‘Crazy’ early last year, completely selling out in under a week.

Black Bombers Press BW web credit Katriina Etholen

Speaking of the new album, the band say, “We wanted the actual sound of Fender Guitars and Rogers Drums and an over-driven vocal PA – without those sounds being sanitised through the prism of studio technology. We set up in a disused factory space and Paul Gray made a rather expert field recording as we let rip over the course of a weekend. The result was, as we’d kinda hoped all along, reminiscent of the kind of primal, no budget, proto-gunk that had emanated from Pathway or Escape studios in those blissful years before the rise of the click-track.”

The Black Bombers play a special launch night for the album on Friday 27 May at Some Weird Sin at Nambucca, Holloway Road, London. Also playing at EIGHT ROUNDS RAPID and PLASTIC PROPAGANDA. Tickets here.

Before that, however, they play a hometown show on Sunday 1 May at The Hare & Hounds, Kings Heath with DAN SARTAIN, THE CASTILLIANS, THE TERROR WATTS and CRAWLIN’ HANDS. Tickets here.

SCIENTISTS ANNOUNCE LONDON DATE!

scientists_0151794613769422_688848690_n

Australian punk iconoclasts THE SCIENTISTS have announced a one-off date in London this summer!

They play The Lexington, Pentonville Road, London on Saturday 25 June.  The show is one of a series of international dates celebrating the reissue of the band’s back catalogue by The Numero Group.

Formed in Perth in 1978 and fronted by guitarist-singer Kim Salmon, The Scientists did much to impact the underground music landscape, both in their homeland and internationally, with a flexible line-up and an ever evolving sound, something Salmon has continued to do with his various projects over the ensuing years. The band hit their peak in the U.K. while resident here in the mid 80s, supporting the likes of THE GUN CLUB  and SISTERS OF MERCY.

The Scientists last played the U.K. in the mid-noughties: in 2006 at the behest of MUDHONEY, which resulted in the classic Sedition live album, and then again the following year, appearing at ATP and the Spitz Festival Of The Blues.

The line-up for the Lexington show will include Salmon, guitarist Tony Thewlis, bassist Boris Sujdovic and drummer Robert Coyne.  Tickets for the show priced £15 are available here.

Check out the Scientists playing ‘We Had Love’ on Australian TV.

THREE DAYS OF THE TRIFFIDS!

triffids-420x0

Legendary Australian band THE TRIFFIDS have announced three European dates in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of their iconic album Born Sandy Devotional.

Although frontman and songwriter David McComb sadly died in 1999, all five of the surviving members of the band’s classic line-up – Robert McComb, Jill Birt, Alsy MacDonald, Martyn Casey and Graham Lee – will be joined by Rob Snarski and JP Shilo of THE BLACKEYED SUSANS and others yet to be announced, to perform the album in its entirety.

They play….

18/10/16 Paradiso, Amsterdam
21/10/16 Islington Assembly Hall, London
23/10/16 AB, Brussels

Tickets go on sale on Friday 29 April.

In a Facebook statement, the band said, “We are, as usual, celebrating the life of our dear departed friend and brother David McComb; but this time we are also celebrating the album that has become recognized over the years as being his finest writing achievement. It’s hard to believe that Born Sandy Devotional was released 30 years ago. A multimedia spectacle is promised with much yet to be announced.”

Formed in Perth in 1978, The Triffids are one of the most revered Australian bands of the 80s, releasing several albums fusing glowering post-punk with country and gothic undertones, with David McComb considered to be one of the greatest of Australian songwriters. Since the band’s break-up in 1989, members have been involved with various projects, with Casey becoming a longstanding member of NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS. The band has reformed periodically for special occasions, featuring guest vocalists, including Snarksi, Steve Kilbey of THE CHURCH and Mick Harvey of The Bad Seeds.

Domino Records released a deluxe vinyl reissue of Born Sandy Devotional at the end of last year.

D GENERATION UNVEIL NEW ALBUM TASTER!

New York City glam-punks D GENERATION return with a new single as a taster for their first new album in 17 years, set to be released this summer.

The track ‘Apocalypse Kids’ is taken from Nothing Is Anywhere, which is being released through Bastard Basement Records on 29 July.

Produced by guitarist Danny Sage, Nothing Is Anywhere is a first-or-second-take album, recorded in basements under Avenue A and the Magic Shop in NYC. “We’ve finally made a record that represents us,” says Sage. “We make a really good noise on stage, and this album is a little more snotty, nasty. The needles are in the red a bit more.”

D Generation – Jesse Malin, Danny Sage, Howie Pyro, Richard Bacchus and Michael Wildwood – initially formed in 1991 and after releasing their debut on Chrysalis, signed to Columbia for two albums produced by THE CARS’ Ric Ocasek and Tony Visconti respectively. Despite having the card stacked in their favour with high-profile support tours with THE RAMONES, KISS, GREEN DAY and THE OFFSPRING, they imploded in 1999. With Malin having enjoyed a relatively successful solo career, the band reformed in 2008 and 2011 for a series of dates, including shows with GUNS N’ROSES.

STIV CANTARELLI’S BLUES HANGOVER!

Stiv B and W

Italian punk-blues iconoclast STIV CANTARELLI has announced a new solo E.P. and a one-off London date.

Having severely dented the U.K. alternative blues and garage scene over the past couple of years with the acclaimed Banks Of The Lea album – recorded at East London’s famed Gizzard studio – and dates with LEFT LANE CRUISER and at the legendary Dirty Water Club, Stiv and his band THE SILENT STRANGERS entered a hiatus.

Cantarelli, however, has not been idle, and has recorded several tracks at his home base in Florence, backed only by a Roland TR-626 drum machine. The five primal punk-blues recordings are set to see the light of day during the summer under the name JAMES DEAN HANGOVER.

A new Silent Strangers album is, however, promised for the not too distant future.

In the meantime, Cantarelli plays a one-off set at a new alternative blues night, Beat, Bop & Blues, at Grow in London’s Hackney Wick on Friday 22 April. Also on the bill are THE DUBLO, featuring Pete Bennett of Blackpool garage-punks MONKEY ISLAND (and more recently THE MEMBRANES), Essex blues-rockers MOLLYS DAGGERS, CRAIG SHAW & THE EXCELLOS and GEORGES KAPLAN PRESENTS.

Check out ‘The Streets’ from Banks Of The Lea.
