COCK SPARRER HELP CHARITY-STREETLIFE

Punk legends Cock Sparrer support local charity for Blackpool’s vulnerable young people

The Rebellion punk festival is back at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool this summer, and this year festival headliners Cock Sparrer are helping raise money and awareness of local charity Streetlife. This is the fourth time the band has headlined the festival and this year they decided that they wanted to give something back to the people of Blackpool. The band are raffling off the backdrop they will be using onstage to one lucky fan. All proceeds raised will go to support Streetlife, a Blackpool charity which provides information, advice, support and counselling for vulnerable young people. Singer Colin said, "We decided as a band that we wanted to do something to give back to the Blackpool community, and what better way than supporting an organisation like Streetlife who support those who need it most?" "There are so many young people who find themselves in situations where they see no way out, whether it's issues with drugs, alcohol, mental health or homelessness. We're proud to be able to make a contribution to the work they do on behalf of our fans and the Rebellion community" The Rebellion Festival is the world's biggest (and best!) punk festival, taking place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th August, 2013. Find out more by visiting http://www.rebellionfestivals.com Cock Sparrer are one of the oldest and most well respected punk bands, celebrating 41 years playing together this year. They are known around the world for their songs about working class life and community, and have played gigs all over Europe, America, Brazil, Argentina and more. You can find out more by visiting their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/cocksparreruk Streetlife is a local Blackpool charity which was established in 1882. They provide advice and support for young people who have drug, alcohol or mental health issues. They have an eight bed emergency nightshelter for young people aged 16-25. They operate a day centre on Buchanan St and a nightshelter next to St John’s church. In June 2010 Streetlife were honoured with a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service recognising the hard work they do helping those who need it most. MICK FARREN-THE DEVIANTS-RIP

 RIP THE MIGHTY MICK FARREN

Author, counter-culture icon and musician Mick Farren has died aged 69, according to reports.

Farren collapsed on stage at London’s Borderline on Saturday night (July 27) while performing with his band The Deviants at the Atomic Sunshine Festival.

News of Farren’s collapse and, subsequently, passing was confirmed on his  facebook page, where tributes have since been pouring in. The initial post read: "Hate to break the news but Mick collapsed on stage mid gig and the rest of the festival has been cancelled. I don’t know how the old boy is but he was unconscious on stage when the venue was cleared." About 15 hours later, another post read: "Today was indeed the day. RIP."

Born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Farren formed The Deviants (originally Social Deviants) in 1967 in Ladbroke Grove, London. The group released three albums between 1967 and 1969, and Farren’s solo debut followed a year later. As an author, Farren wrote 23 novels, 11 non-fiction books, four books on Elvis Presley and a memoir of the 1960s counter-culture titled Give The Anarchist A Cigarette. He worked for NME in the 1970s, famously writing the 1976 piece The Titanic Sails At Dawn which predicted the oncoming punk explosion. "The iceberg in this case seems to be one of a particularly threatening nature," he wrote. "In fact it is an iceberg that is drifting uncomfortably close to the dazzlingly lit, wonderfully appointed Titanic that is big-time, rock-pop, tax exile, jet-set show business."

A career-spanning anthology of Farren’s writing, Elvis Died For Somebody’s Sins But Not Mine, was published earlier this year by Headpress.

Those paying tribute include former Auteurs frontman Luke Haines and MC5’s Wayne Kramer.

WALTER LURE IN VLR-and UK TOUR!The Heartbreakers’ Walter Lure kicks off UK tour at Rebellion Festiva

HEARTBREAKERS legend Walter Lure hits the UK soon. Full details below. And read an exclusive interview with him in the next issue of Vive Le Rock, out Aug 15th!

The Heartbreakers’ Walter Lure kicks off UK tour at Rebellion Festival on August 8th, & Jungle Records reveal full tracklisting for extended edition of The Waldos’ much sought after ‘Rent Party’, reissue out August 12th

Walter Lure will be on his way back to the UK in just two weeks time.  The original guitarist and co-vocalist with Johnny Thunders’ iconic New York punks The Heartbreakers kicks off a three day live run with an appearance at Blackpool’s Rebellion Festival on August 8th, and then heads to Bristol and London.

This will be Walter’s third road trip with British bandmates ’Rockin’ Ray Birch and Ozzie (bass/drums, both of Gunfire Dance), and Jez Miller (guitar, Lords of the New Church / The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing), who joined him on two successful UK tours in 2010 and 2011.  On their first outing, the quartet played a sold-out show at London’s legendary 100 Club, ending the night with an incendiary encore featuring original Sex Pistol Glen Matlock. Public demand then prompted them to return a year later, when a capacity crowd at Camden’s Purple Turtle saw Walter reunite with Heartbreakers’ bassist Billy Rath.

Though not revealing the identities of special guests for 2013 as yet, Walter did offer a few clues as to what’s in store at this summer’s dates when he was interviewed in the current issue of Classic Rock magazine.  He told Kris Needs, “we’re going to resurrect a few [songs], like ‘Baby Talk’, and I might do Johnny’s ‘Just Because I’m White’”, and also discussed how colleagues on Wall Street regard his recent return to rock ’n’ roll.
Catch the show for yourself at;
Thurs 8th August – BLACKPOOL, Winter Gardens (Rebellion Festival – www.rebellionfestivals.com)

Fri 9th August – BRISTOL, Exchange (w/Healthy Junkies). Doors 7pm / £12 adv

Sat 10th August – LONDON, The Underworld (w/The Parkinsons, Electric River & The Terraces)  Doors 6pm / £15 adv.
To coincide with the tour, Jungle Records will be reissuing the 1994 debut from Walter’s post-Heartbreakers group, The Waldos.  Titled ’Rent Party’ (after the reunions The Heartbreakers staged to raise cash in the 80s), the album has become highly sought after, due to being unavailable on CD for many years.  The Jungle reissue is released on August 12th, and includes four bonus tracks from two rare seven inches; The Waldos’ ‘Crazy Little Baby / Cry Baby‘, and The Blessed’s ‘Deep Frenzy / American Bandstand’.  The latter single was originally released by D-Generation co-founder Howie Pyro and his first band in 1979, and features Walter as a special guest.  The full track listing for ’Rent Party’ is as follows;
1.  CRY BABY  (Tony Coiro)

MISSION-NEW ALBUM DETAILS

Just days after wrapping the band’s first North American tour in more than a decade this September, The Mission will release its new studio album The Brightest Light, an 11-song collection that marks the first time original band members Wayne Hussey, Simon Hinkler and Craig Adams have recorded together since the sessions for 1990′s Carved In Sand.

The band detailed the new album (see tracklist below) on its website late Sunday night, announcing release dates for North America (Sept. 17), the U.K. (Sept. 20) and France (Sept. 23).

Produced by David M. Allen — who has worked with The Cure, Depeche Mode, Wire and The Sisters of Mercy — the new album was recorded earlier this year, and will be released as a standard 11-song version and as a deluxe edition with a bonus CD featuring an undisclosed number of extra tracks and a lyrics booklet. The album also will be released on double vinyl and digitally.

The new record will be the first new studio album from the reunited Mission — Hussey, Hinkler and Adams, plus new drummer Mike Kelly — since 2007′s God Is a Bullet.

Hussey reunited The Mission in fall 2011 for the first time since the band’s string of album-spanning farewell gigs in London in February and March 2008. Since then, the band has performed through Europe, Mexico and South America. The Mission embarks on its first North American tour in 11 years on Sept. 3.

ALMIGHTY RE-FUCKIN ISSUES!

  THE ALMIGHTY: ‘RE-F**KIN’-ISSUES!’

CLASSIC EARLY ALBUMS SET FOR OFFICIAL RE-F**KIN’-RELEASE IN SEPTEMBER 2013 VIA SPINEFARM RECORDS…

HAVING DONE much to light a blaze under ’90s UK rock, The Almighty – the full force riffin’ machine formed in Scotland in 1988 – have long been regarded as a four-man gang to be reckoned with, splicing elements of rock, punk & metal to telling effect…

And now, with the band’s reputation continuing to flourish, a late-September re-issue of the early catalogue has been confirmed, with Spinefarm taking over from Polydor (the band’s original home) as the label co-ordinating the campaign…

BEFORE FIRST hanging up their leathers in 1996, then later – following a brief reformation – in 2002, the band released a series of recordings, studio & live, that saw them rise to front cover status on home turf, lauded by fans & critics alike.

With Black Star Riders / Thin Lizzy frontman, Ricky Warwick, leading the charge, The Almighty travelled the world, toured with legends (Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, etc.), played the main stage at Download (then called Monsters Of Rock), appeared on Top Of The Pops, had a Top 5 album & successive Top 30 singles, and generally delivered straight from the hip, thrilling audiences who liked their hard rock complete with sleeve-tattoos plus a tiger-eyed commitment to The Cause.

Musically, the band staked their ground between Motorhead & ‘Electric’-era Cult, with plenty of punk snot ‘n’ spirit to spice up the brew; all of which made their early Polydor releases – five albums, starting with 1989’s ‘Blood, Fire & Love’ – the sort of hell-for-leather offerings best listened to with the better crockery firmly locked away.

THE INITIAL batch of Re-issues (fully official and put together with band involvement) will appear beneath the ‘RE-F**KIN’-ISSUES’ banner and be divided into two parts – the first pair of titles coming out on September 30th, and the following releases early in 2014. All of the Re-issues will come complete with extensive bonus content, including live, studio, remix & acoustic recordings, plus liner notes, special packaging and track-by-track comments from Ricky Warwick

"We are all very excited to finally have The Almighty releases available again,” exclaims Ricky, currently in the throes of an acoustic UK tour. “It’s been 25 years and this music deserves to be heard.  It’s kind of like seeing an old friend again and it’s like the years never passed!"

‘RE-F**KING-ISSUES’: September 30th, 2013

‘Blood, Fire & Love’ (originally released in 1989)

‘Soul Destruction’ (originally released in 1991)

TO SUPPORT these re-releases, long-awaited by fans, there is talk of live Almighty shows featuring key original members, and also a brand new studio album, but then that’s not really surprising given that Track No. 1 on Album No. 1 was ‘Resurrection Mutha’!

Guess you can’t keep the muzzle on the beast – Al-f**kin’-mightyall-f**kin’-hail!

FLESH FOR LULU-REFORMED-AND VLR PRESENTS!

Flesh for lulu

 Flesh for lulu

VIVE LE ROCK MAGAZINE

is proud to present

Flesh For Lulu

Plus Guests

Monday 14th October 2013, 7:00 pm | 11:00 pm curfewBUY TICKETSTickets: £12.50

Forged in the embers of London’s post-punk aftermath, FLESH FOR LULU came to life in a Brixton squat shared with the embryonic Godfathers and King Kurt. The original line up of Nick Marsh (Lead Voice/Guitar), Rocco (Guitar), James Mitchell (Drums) and Glenn Bishop (Bass) took their cues from the decadence of the Velvet Underground, the savagery of the Stooges and the big slinky grooves and melodies of 70′s glitter rock. Creating an exotic, chaotic sound and a darkly glamourous look that involved lots of black hair dye, heavy make up and torn fishnets. FLESH FOR LULU quickly became a fixture at London’s Batcave club where alongside Alien Sex Fiend, Siouxsie Sioux and Specimen they became architects of the original Gothic Rock style.

After taking part in the legendary Batcave Tour of 1982 FLESH FOR LULU signed on the dotted line with Polydor Records for the release of their explosive self-titled debut album which contained the singles ‘Subterraneans’ and ‘Restless’ which, along with ‘Roman Candle’ became staple dancefloor fillers on the emerging nationwide UK Goth scene.

More tours followed with The Cramps, Lords Of The New Church and The Damned before the band recruited ex-Specimen bassist Kevin Mills and began to hone their their songwriting skills, bringing in a more sophisticated ‘American song-book’ (Gram Parsons, Jonny Cash) influence that somewhat distanced them from the ‘Goth’ crowd. Although the heavy make-up, black leather and growing reputation for outrageous behaviour remained. Second album ‘Big Fun City’ and the ‘Blue Sisters Swing’ EP (produced by Craig Leon of Ramones and Blondie fame) both received acclaim from fans and critics alike, as did subsequent tours of Europe and the USA.

It was around this time that a somewhat unexpected career boost arrived in the shape of big time Hollywood teen movie director John Hughes who declared his love for the band by first planting a FLESH FOR LULU poster on Molly Ringwald’s bedroom wall in his smash hit ‘Pretty In Pink’ then featuring the song ‘I Go Crazy’ in that movie’s follow up, ‘Some Kind Of Wonderful’. As a result, a new, younger audience started attending their shows and the ‘Long Live The New Flesh’ LP (released shortly afterwards) became their biggest seller, spawning two more hit singles in ‘Postcards From Paradise’ and ‘Siamese Twist’.

This new Stateside success kept the group out on the road for the best part of 2 years before they flew to Australia to record a final album in their original incarnation, 1989′s ‘Plastic Fantastic’. Produced by Mark Opitz (AC/DC, INXS, Divinyls) the LP gave birth to the singles ‘Decline And Fall’ and ‘Time And Space’ which became their biggest US hit to date. Another trek across America, this time with John Lydon’s PiL followed, after which the band went their separate ways.

Post-FLESH, Nick and Rocco formed a new band, the guitar heavy Gigantic, releasing the album ‘Disenchanted’ on Sony/Columbia and touring the world before splitting in 1998. More recently Nick has embarked on a solo career, releasing the ‘A Universe Between Us’ LP. He also plays guitar with London’s premier gypsy-punk outfit The Urban Voodoo Machine, but the ghost of FLESH FOR LULU has always lingered, with their continued appearance on both 80′s movie and ‘Gothic Rock’ compilations and some high-profile cover versions of their songs by the likes of Paul Westerberg and the Goo Goo Dolls.

Now, in 2013 Nick has reformed the band with a new line up including Will Crewdson (Guitar) Mark Bishop (Drums) and Keith McAndrew (Bass). Look out for more touring, recording and inevitably, more chaos. LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH!

INTERNATIONAL SWINGERS SHOW

NEW PUNK-ROCK SUPERGROUP TO PLAY LONDON DATE

Featuring members of Blondie, The Sex Pistols, Generation X and Twenty Flight Rockers, new rock band The International Swingers will perform a special gig at The Lexington in Kings Cross, London, on Friday July 19th, 2013.

After forming last year, Blondie drummer Clem Burke, Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, Chelsea/Generation X guitarist James Stevenson and Twenty Flight Rockers singer/guitarist Gary Twinn recently completed tour dates in Australia and North America’s west coast, where songs titled ‘Gun Control’ ‘Live Wire’ and ‘FBI’ were performed in addition to old favourites from the band members’ respective back catalogues.

The International Swingers’ date at The Lexington is invitation only, so for a chance to be on the guest list for this exclusive show fans are being asked to sign-up to the band’s mailing list at their website, ‘like’ their Facebook page or follow the band’s Twitter account.

Following regular airplay from the legendary radio disc jockey Rodney Bingenheimer on Los Angeles’ top radio station KROQ, as well as radio stations in Australia and Japan (where band’s controversial DIY video for ‘Gun Control’ has become one of the Top 5 most-watched videos on Japan’s George TV music channel), The International Swingers’ have made their demos available for free download from their website.

Clem Burke: "The swingers are a group of long-time mates, no one answered an advert to be in this band."

Gary Twinn: "For me, being in The International Swingers is a lot like being in your first ever band. When you’re at school you hang out with your best mates and someone says “I’ve got some drums, so you be the guitarist, you be the bass player, and you’ve got no instrument so you’ll have to be the singer”. That’s what it was like with us because we were already mates and used to hang out together –  then one day I asked the others if they wanted to start a band to go on holiday to Australia. Clem plays drums, James plays guitar and Glen plays bass, and I can sing a bit. Sorted. The only difference was that I had a guitar, too."

Glen Matlock described his new band mates as “the mustard", while James Stevenson said, "Apparently, according to journalist Mick Mercer, I’ve been in 72% of all known bands – but I only have one favourite band."

The International Swingers’ UK live date details are as follows:

Date: Friday, 19th July, 2013

Venue: The Lexington, 96 – 98 Pentonville Road, London N1 9JB

Time: 7.00pm

COCKNEY REJECTS-EASTEND BABYLON-SIGNING

East End Babylon - The Story Of The Cockney Rejects DVD

The Cockney Rejects will be signing copies of their East End Babylon DVD (and anything else really) at All Ages Records, 27 Pratt Street Camden Town, London NW1 from 6pm on Tuesday 6 August.East End Babylon is the new documentray film from the award winning producers of Dr Feelgoods’ ‘Oil City Confidential’. You can order East End Babylon right here on the ViveLe Rock website store-

East End Babylon – The Story Of The Cockney Rejects DVD

£12.00

Formed in the turbulence of late Seventies East London as an answer to the dominant art school punk, Cockney Rejects cornered their patch with their brand of terrace singalong classics and a white hot live set. ""East End Babylon"" is the no-holds-barred and acclaimed documentary that tells their story through interviews, rare archive footage of the band and their East End roots plus dynamic live footage.

The Rejects were fiercely working class, the band eschewed the political ramblings of punk’s first wave and sang about their own circumstances. Joe Strummer famously said that, ""The Rejects were the real deal"", whilst Morrissey reckoned ""Jeff Turner was obviously singing to avoid killing someone.""

Signed by EMI after playing four local gigs (less than The Pistols!) they found themselves playing sell out tours across the UK and seeing their debut album storm the charts. Top of the Pops appearances followed, which became the stuff of legend as the band ran amok, finally being banned from the show.

"East End Babylon" was directed by Richard England (executive producer of award-winning Dr. Feelgood documentary "Oil City Confidential") and edited by Henry Stein (who recently edited the Led Zeppelin concert film "Celebration Day"). ‘East End Babylon’ receives a 9/10 review in issue 13 of Vive Le Rock, with editor Eugene Butcher calling it an "essential rock ‘n’ roll documentary".

As well as the film itself, the DVD release includes over 90 minutes of outstanding bonus extras including unseen music and interview footage. "East End Babylon" was featured in the Sundance Film Festival in London on 26th April 2013 and nominated for the BAFTA’s longlist.

THE TERRACES

G’day mate – so where are you and what’s the bloody weather like?
“I’m in Melbourne and it’s winter time. We’re freezing our asses off! It reminds me of an English summer!”

And just who the fuck are The Terraces?

“We’re a four piece from Oz, with ex-One Way System founder member and bass player turned vocalist, Gary Buckley. My old mucker on guitar, Dean Tsolondres, ex-Rose Tattoo bass player Stephen ‘Kingy’ King and Howling Moon Doggies drummer Shakir Pichler. Four perfectly suited rebel rousers that look forward to blowing audiences away in August!”

You are over soon on the ‘Punks of Mother England’ tour. What’s all that about?

“The tour features ourselves and our good friends Electric River. It’s a double headline tour. When I first came to Australia everyone used to call me a Pome (Prisoner of Mother England). So seeing that we are all expats and Electric River are English we thought Punks Of Mother England was appropriate. It also defines the strange and weird fucking times we are living in at present – it’s time punks came out of hibernation and started rebelling against the conservative assholes who think they can put their dirty little fingers in our faces and tell us what to do, when to do it and how to fucking do it!”

If we want to check out you guys, what records have you got out right now?

“We have our self-titled debut album out, ‘The Terraces’, and the new ‘Extra Time’ EP out August 5th. Both are out through Blast Records and are available through iTunes and all good record stores – and from the merch desk of course!”

What three things should someone bring to a Terraces show?
“A strong constitution, a soothing quiff and to know the words so they can sing along to ‘Complete Control’!”

Live, the Cramps seemed unstoppable – their summer UK tour climaxed with a show at the Hammersmith Palais that saw Lux indulge on an Iggy Pop style walk out into the crowd, before charging across the dancefloor and rounding out an unforgettable performance by ripping a hole in the Palais stage and dropping through. “There was this huge crowd and I was standing at the back and Lux came off the stage he ran through the audience,” recalls Ace Records supremo Roger Armstrong. “As he was running he was gathering these guys, who were hanging onto guys, who were hanging on to guys and I remember Lux coming around and the crowd parted in front of him and he just looked at me and went, ‘Hi Rog!’ It was so cool.”

The subsequent show at Brighton’s Top Rank was no less frenzied – after the encore, Lux remained on stage, stark naked, creating a wall of feedback by rubbing the microphone against a speaker with a psychotic look on his face. This continued for a full five minutes until Nick emerged from the wings to wrap him in a towel and lead him away. The bulk of the audience were completely stunned by such a wild finale, which delighted Lux to the extent that he repeated the performance several times over the next few nights. Twenty five years later, on what turned out to be the Cramps’ final European tour, Lux remained uninhibited about his nudity. “I almost got in trouble in Stockholm; The cops came up afterward to Bob [Woodrum] our tour manager and they said, ‘Incidentally, the exposure of the testicles – this was unintentional, isn’t that correct?’ And Bob says, “Oh, absolutely – He’s never done that before’.”

THE DROPKICK MURPHYS

BLOOD BROTHERS
Returning with their eighth studio album, ‘Signed And Sealed In Blood’, Boston Celtic punk titans DROPKICK MURPHYS have recently trodden the boards on a rowdy UK and Ireland tour and seem tighter with each other and their fans than ever. Ian Chaddock and Emily Haider join their party…

“IT has a double meaning,” Dropkick Murphys co-vocalist, bassist and founding member Ken Casey says of the band’s new record, ‘Signed And Sealed In Blood’. “It reflects the passion and commitment and importance of the band to us. And also it shows shows the same commitment our loyal supporters give to us, as most evident in the fact that so many of them do us the honour of tattooing our logo on their bodies.”

Dedication is certainly something that Dropkicks fans have plenty of, shown by their rabid response to their recent live shows – the Dropkicks playing in Dublin is one hell of a show – but, as Casey explains, many of them are such die hards that they get permanent odes to their favourite band. With their new record they released the first single, ‘Rose Tattoo’, and posted the artwork for the album, asking fans to get a tattoo of the logo to appear in their video and album inlay. Unsurprisingly the response was massive.

“When we released the cover artwork for the album, within three weeks we received close to one hundred pictures from dedicated fans who had tattooed the album logo (a red rose in the middle of a crest) on themselves. The dedication blows our minds and makes us proud to have such amazing fans. I have my favourite band tattooed on my arm and I know what that means to me, so I think it makes me appreciate it all that much more,” stresses Casey. “Coincidentally at least half the band has some sort of a rose tattoo, but nothing that is exact to the logo.”

The new album was a good time for the Dropkicks, completed by Al Barr (vocals), James Lynch (guitar), Tim Brennan (guitar, mandolin, accordion), Matt Kelly (drums), Josh ‘Scruffy’ Wallace (bagpipes, tin whistle) and Jeff DaRosa (acoustic guitar, banjo, bouzouki, keyboard, accordion, mandolin, whistle, organ). Casey explains that it was partly due to the freedom of being free from a concept.

“We had lots of fun making it. It was a reaction to the last album [‘Going Out In Style’, 2011], which was complicated in nature, in that we were trying to follow a story line throughout the writing process. On this album, we had the freedom to write catchy, fun songs.”

So is it fair to say that this album was a party in the studio then? “Every day is a party with the Dropkick Murphys!”, laughs Casey.

That partying and unrestrained approach is crystallised into personal and varied songs, drawing on their heritage. “We tend to write from real experiences and emotions as opposed to abstract ideas and references. I think the influence of Irish music has had a strong impact on our writing style where it’s very much based around storytelling and mainly experiences of our lives or family members’ lives.”

Cutting loose and kicking out the jams has also resulted in Casey’s favourite track on the record. “My personal favourite at the moment is ‘End Of The Night’. Just because it’s a fun anthem… it’s not gonna change the world but maybe it’ll stop ‘Closing Time’ from being played as much,” he chuckles.

Elsewhere on ‘Signed And Sealed In Blood’, ‘Prisoner’s Song’ is a sea shanty-esque folk song with a surprising special guest in the form of English folk rockers Mumford & Sons’ Winston Marshall. Is Casey a fan and how did this unexpected pairing of Boston punks and English indie folks come about?

“Yes, I’m a fan. I have respect for anyone who can bring real music and folk instruments, such as they do, to the mainstream. We met last summer on the European festival circuit. Winston and our Jeff hit it off. We share some of the same musical sensibilities, although we come from two opposite angles. They invited us to play their festival, and we had a great time! We recorded Winston’s banjo while we were up there.”

But any fears that the Dropkicks, who have been blasting out their punk since the mid-’90s, are softening should be instantly dismissed. “I think from the beginning of the band’s career, we’ve always had some songs that were harder than others and some that are on the soft side. However, I think we never tend to write a song that is soft musically and lyrically. If it is a mellow song, the lyrics usually have some type of bite to them. We do not plan on mellowing with age.”

He concludes, “We write songs from many different angles, sometimes it might be complete lyrics in a vocal melody other times it may be a banjo or a guitar riff that sparks an idea. It’s a fairly democratic process where most of the people in the band take part in writing songs to some degree.”

Raise your glasses and sing along, the Boston boys are back and they’ll be playing loud until the end of the night.

THE PEACOCKS

THE PEACOCKS
UK TOUR

Straight out of Switzerland The Peacocks have been playing double bass driven punk rock since 1990. That is long before a band they are often compared to, Australia’s The Living End, had even formed. The comparisons are justified though, rockabilly influenced punk trio with hard-hitting, excellently observed and aware lyrics that have transcended genres.

The original line-up with founder member Hasu Langhart, guitarist and lyricist at the helm hit the road hard in those early days playing 100′s of shows all over Europe, after just a year current bassist Simon Langhart was also on board. The hard miles paid off when the rest of the world began to take notice after the 1998 release of ‘In Without Knocking’, a tour of Japan, Canada and North America followed.

The Peacocks went down such a storm in North America that they were spotted by Mike Park at Asian Man Records, the home ofThe Alkaline Trio amongst others and promptly signed them to release their next album, the acclaimed ‘Angel’. Shortly afterwards the current drummer Jurg Luder joined the band and the permanent line-up was complete.

2004 saw the release of their next album ‘It’s Time For…..The Peacocks’ this album was on five labels in five countries and three continents. In the UK the album was released by Household Name Records who had championed the careers of Capdown and The King Blues. Another world tour followed promptly. The Peacocks label-hopping came to an end in 2007 when they signed to People Like You Records. They stayed in the USA after that leg of their tour to record PLY debut ‘Touch and Go’ at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette Indiana, this was followed up by the mini album ‘Gimme More’ then ‘After All’ in 2010.

2012 saw the release of ‘Don’t Ask’ on People Like You Records, a 14 track stomper of an album that is all that we have all come to expect from The Peacocks – Explosive, rockabilly influenced, stand-up bass driven punk rock, addictive and as catchy as hell.

On tour in the UK in August.

SHARKS ARE DEAD

SHARKS HAVE SPLIT UP!

To all our fans,

We’re sorry to announce that the four of us have decided to end our journey as Sharks.

Unfortunately all of our upcoming dates have been cancelled and we have no plans as of yet to play any final shows. We sincerely apologise to anyone who has bought tickets or were planning to buy tickets to any of these shows. On a positive note, we have just finished making a brand new music video for ‘Gold’ with our good friend Tom Lacey, which we’ll be releasing for all of you in the coming weeks. We will also be holding a sale on all of the remaining Sharks shirts we have available, none of which will be re-printed.

We want to thank all of you for the incredible support you’ve given us over the last six years. We’ve been lucky enough to take Sharks all over the world and befriend many wonderful people along the way. It’s given us so much joy to share our music with you. So with this farewell, we leave you with three records of which we are immensely proud of—The Joys of Living 2008-2010, No Gods, and Selfhood—which we hope you’ll continue to enjoy long into the future.

We would also like to send a special thanks to our close friends and family and the great team of people we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years — Oliver Mitchell, Ross Warnock, Matthew Gordner and everyone at Rise Records, Ben Husted and Raw Power Management, Andy Somers and The Agency Group, BB Gun Press, Coffeebreath & Heartache, Vinyl Junkie and Swagger City Records.

Thank you, friends!

James, Andrew, Sam and Carl xxxx
