THE BERMONDSEY JOYRIDERS AT 100 CLUB

The band join the Cockney Rejects at London’s 100 Club on Oct 6th

The Bermondsey Joyriders are delighted to announce they will be appearing as Special Guests of The Cockney Rejects, when the Oi icons’ play London’s 100 Club this October.

An ideal and inspired match for the main act’s East End terrace chants, The ‘Joyriders share a certain ‘77 heritage with The ‘Rejects (frontman Gary Lammin, bassist Martin Stacey and drummer Chris Musto respectively cut their teeth in Strummer proteges Little Roosters, Chelsea and Johnny Thunders‘ Oddballs), but possess a distinctive style of showmanship that’s sure to keep punters on their toes. Since uniting as the ‘Joyriders this side of the new millennium, the veteran trio have blended the punk prototype with slide-blues sounds and a Kinks-esque vein of very British social commentary, fully realizing their bold vision on May’s second album ‘Noise & Revolution’.

An ambitious concept piece featuring spoken word narration from MC5 manager and performance poet John Sinclair, the record won considerable critical acclaim upon release and a cult following, as the band proceeded to air it live and in full at a series of unconventional self-promoted gigs and happenings.

At next month’s show with The Cockney Rejects, The Bermondsey Joyriders will eagerly embrace an opportunity to take their radical revision of the Brit punk blueprint back to its roots. Indeed, vocalist and guitarist Gary Lammin has been a loyal supporter of the headliners since the very seeds of their now iconic story were sown. Speaking at the premiere of ‘Rejects biopic ‘East End Babylon’ in April, Gary revealed how he was so suitably impressed on first encountering the group in 1979 that he immediately set about securing what would be the classic line-up’s debut show at London’s Bridgehouse.

By inviting The Bermondsey Joyriders to join them in October, the ‘Rejects bring more than 30 years of mutual respect full-circle, and offer a double-dose of authentic East End flavour at;

6th October – LONDON, 100 Club

The following month will see the ‘Joyriders will be back on the London stage in November with The Vibrators. The one-off, hometown double-header happens at;

17th November – LONDON, Boston Music Room

NEW BOOK – PUNK: AN AESTHETIC

 Punk: An Aesthetic

Text by Jon Savage, William Gibson, and Linder Sterling, Edited by Johan Kugelberg

From posters for punk-rock bands and indie filmmakers to fanzines and other independent publications, the art of the punk movement revolutionized design in ways whose influence is still felt today, and reflected the consciousness of a counterculture with a clarity seldom seen since.

Drawing on private and public archives of rare material from around the world, this heavily illustrated book presents an unrivaled collection of punk art and ephemera that incorporates every aspect of the movement, from the earliest occurrences of punk symbolism in posters and flyers for underground bands to the explosion of fanzines and Xerox culture, and from rare photographs of musicians such as the Sex Pistols and the Screamers to the artwork of Crass, Jamie Reid, John Holmstrom, and the contemporary street artist Banksy.

With more than three hundred images and accompanying essays by Johan Kugelberg, Jon Savage, and William Gibson, this definitive visual narrative illustrates how the DIY ethic of the punk era inspired a movement in graphic arts and design whose influence is still felt among the most significant figures in the fields today.

About the Author

PARANOID VISIONS NEW ALBUM

NEW OVERGROUND RECORDS RELEASE!!
PARANOID VISIONS

Formed in Dublin in 1981, Ireland’s longest running punk band have become increasingly successful, culminating in what has already been described as a “snarling and aggressive lyrically, perfectly bitter, recession-themed album” by State Magazine.

The 16 track album features special guests in the form of Crass’ frontman Steve Ignorant, The Cravats’ vocalist The Shend, the legendary TV Smith and Rubella Ballet’s Zillah Minx and has been mastered by Sid Ation from Rubella Ballet.

The album has already broken mainstream barriers by having two Top 10 Irish singles Politician (from Der Election EP) and the follow-up Outsider Artist (featuring TV Smith both of which, in a huge leap of public support, broke through the X – Factor barrier and nestled at No. 6 in the charts. The band hope the next single taken from the album will also hit number 6, as the 666 reference equates to the devil’s involvement in the rest of the Top 10.

Paranoid Visions have always avoided being genre specific in their musical output and this album is no exception. The contrasts between the 54 second hardcore of Problem with the 6 minute long Killing Joke inspired punk/metal of Nuclear Victims, to the 11 minute long Recession Klub track, (a doom laden reflection on the state of the economy that was described in an early pre-release review as being “a mini-masterpiece that not many punk bands would have the nerve to attempt”) added to the Crass meets The Buzzcocks track Split Personality (featuring Steve Ignorant on lead vocals) and the angular, Wire inspired, Rising Tides give this album an eclecticism that crosses genres, styles and influences.

Clocking in at 69 minutes long the album was clearly too long to fit on vinyl, so the first 12 tracks will feature and the package contains a cd of the entire album and the 20 page cd booklet to make a beautiful package.

Track Listing:

Austerity Crusade /On The Run /Outsider Artist /Politician /Poles Apart /All Systems Go /Statement Of Intent /Dangerous Rhythm /Split Personality /Tainted Ink /Rising Tide /(Don’t Let The) Rot Set In /Beatenhovans Symphony /Problem /Nuclear Victims (The Bombsong) /Recession Klub

In these 384 pages of garish, pop and glam rock European picture sleeve glory, "Wired Up!" celebrates the sights and sounds of the zeitgeist aberration that was early 70’s glitter rock records; where the flash, shock and outrageousness of the picture sleeve oftentimes proved just as important as the explosive sounds within. A renaissance of style, a riot of colour and the raving rocking rebirth of the three-minute-pop single, "Wired Up!" is not only an early clue to the new direction rock and roll was taking in the 1970’s, but the final statement on a disposable era’s lasting appeal.
