THE CARS TO DRIVE AGAIN?

The Cars have prompted speculation that they are set to reunite by posting a photograph of the band rehearsing on their official Facebook page. The legendary pop-rockers enjoyed a string of hits in the ’70s and ’80s—including “Let’s Go,” “Shake It Up,” and “Drive”—but split after their 1987 album, Door to Door. The photograph shows Ric Ocasek and Elliot Easton with guitars, David Robinson behind the drums, and keyboardist Greg Hawkes standing in on bass for Benjamin Orr, who sang many of the band’s best-loved tunes and died from pancreatic cancer in 2000. According to the Boston Globe, Greg Hawkes has acknowledged the photo does show a band rehearsal, but he was coy on the subject of a Cars reunion. “I hate to be vague, but I really can’t say,” said Hawkes. “It’s a crazy world.” Ocasek’s spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

GANG OF 4 FOR HEAVEN

GANG OF FOUR ANNOUNCE LONDON HEAVEN SHOW FEBRUARY 2ND 2011 Gang Of Four, one of the most radical and radically important groups of the last thirty years, have announced that they will be appearing at London¹s Heaven on February 2nd 2011. The band who released one of the greatest debut albums of all time (Entertainment! in 1979) have always been the landmark on post punk horizons anyway and in a live context their uncompromising message is clearer and possibly even more powerful than on record. The Heaven show will be part of the NME Awards Shows 2011 and tickets priced at £15.00 are available on sale through www.NME.com <http://www.NME.com> and on general release through Gigs and Tours and Ticketmaster. All prices are subject to booking fees plus a 50p charity donation to Teenage Cancer Trust Gang Of Four have also revealed details of their first album of new songs for more than sixteen years. Set for release on January 24th 2011 and entitled CONTENT, the record sees founding members Jon King and Andy Gill continue to deliver intelligent and liberating music that is both provocative and thrilling. ³What we're trying to do is keep it totally stripped down, where everyone in the band makes an equally intense contribution,² says King. New tracks include ³Who Am I?² ³You Don¹t Have To Be Mad,² ³I Can¹t Forget Your Lonely Face² and ³I Party All The Time,² and they reveal Gang Of Four to be just as challenging and unconventional now as they were in 1978. Andy Gill says: ³When Jon and I talked about the album we were making, we looked back at some of the other records we had made and thought about how the visual context we created for the music was integral to each project. Bands usually hand over the artwork, the Œpackaging¹, to other people but for us, it¹s an intrinsic part of what we¹re communicating. The record is called Content, in recognition of the way every creative form has been reduced to just that: content, the obligatory filling for the advertising sandwich. So we decided to make a box with contents, or rather a metal can. It reminded us a little of Manzoni¹s canning of his own excrement [Artist's Shit 1961].² The album will be available in a standard CD release and on vinyl. It will also be available in a limited edition Ultimate Content Can which contains six booklets, the first containing the new album on CD, the second featuring an art piece Jon and Andy have created to depict the last 40 years of world history (composed of a series of twenty drawings and montages), and subsequently a book of lyrics, a book of Rotoscoped photographs of the band's emotions, a book containing sachets of Jon and Andys' blood and a scratch and sniff booklet which reflects the key areas of human activity. Since their inception in 1978 with the legendary Damaged Goods EP, Gang Of Four have triumphantly defined their place on the musical landscape and been a major influence on a wide range of bands such as R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Bloc Party, The Rapture and Franz Ferdinand. The band remain Jon King (vocals & melodica), Andy Gill (guitar & vocals), Thomas McNeice (bass) and Mark Heaney (drums). www.gangoffour.co.uk <http://www.gangoffour.co.uk> www.myspace.com/gangoffour <http://www.myspace.com/gangoffour> twitter.com/gangof4official
