With no less than 42 Top 40 hits spanning over 4 decades, SonyBMG celebrate with the release, this September, of a superb TV advertised collection of THE STRANGLERS works, aptly named ‘4240’. The album will be released as a single CD as well as a Limited Edition CD/DVD, featuring all of the Epic promo videos on DVD for the first time plus clips from their 2007 show at London’s Roundhouse.
Formed in 1974, The Stranglers’ straight-talking approach earned them the reputation of being aggressive and confrontational, a notoriety that was later embraced by the punk movement of 1977. This led to their debut single Grip and their legendary first album, Rattus Norvegicus. A whole series of hits followed including Peaches, No More Heroes, 5 Minutes, Duchess, Something Better Change, Always The Sun and their ultimate classic Golden Brown.
To date The Stranglers boast a total of 24 Top 40 singles and 18 Top 40 albums.
After re-signing to EMI in 2004, The Stranglers last two studio albums, Norfolk Coast and Suite XVI have been hailed as their best for many years, with hit singles Big Thing Coming and Spectre of Love allowing the band the rare accolade of maintaining Top 40 hits over four decades.
They continue to play sell out shows at home and abroad and this summer the band will play a series of major UK festivals, including T in the Park, V Festival, Isle of White, Hyde Park, Oxegen and Liverpool Pops as well as appearing at key festivals throughout Europe.
In October The Stranglers will embark on a Greatest Hits Worldwide Tour in support of ‘4240‘. UK dates attached.

A host of punk stars from 1977 will line up at the HYDE PARK CALLING show in London this Sunday. Topping the bill are the Police, and included in the supports are Mick Jones and Tony James new band Carbon/Silicon, the Stranglers, and original Police guitarist Henry Padovani’s Flying Padovanis, who also feature original UK Subs bass player Paul Slack. Who said punk’s dead?
Thought punk was dead? Course you didn’t, but if there are any doubters still out there, then the pioneers of the genre, THE SEX PISTOLS may be able to change your mind. Frontman John Lydon and his crew are in talks over a follow up to their monumental 1977 album ‘Never Mind The Bollocks’, but only if the ‘attitude’s’ right. Lydon commented at this weekend’s Isle of White Festival that he’d love to make another album but is adamant that it must come ‘from the heart’. Currently set for a summer tour of Europe, it might still be some time before we hear something new, but if you can’t wait ‘til then, then the boys are back in the homelands for a show in Hammersmith this September.
Sex Pistols play: Tuesday 2 September at Hammersmith Apollo
After over two years of absence, BILLY IDOL hits home shores this July, bringing his Idolize Yourself tour to our doorstep for just two dates. In regards to his return, the spiky blond haired punkstar commented,
“I always look forward to returning home to the UK. British audiences are the best and as always we will rock ‘em to their core. Brace yourselves; we’re comin’!”
Following the release of his new single ‘John Wayne’ and the upcoming release of ‘The Very Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself’ this mini tour looks pretty tasty, with Mr. Idol dusting off all the classics like ‘White Wedding’ and ‘Rebel Yell’, with a spattering of new hits thrown in for good measure. Get those tickets fast though.
Billy Idols plays:
Wednesday 30 July at Manchester Apollo
Thursday 31 July at Hammersmith Apollo
It’s 30 years since The Jam hit our shelves with their debut album, ‘In The City’ and in celebration, the band are reuniting, at least in part, for a groundbreaking UK tour this December. Calling themselves FROM THE JAM, this new incarnation features two thirds of the original line-up, bassist Bruce Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler, complete with new members Russel Hastings on guitar and vocals and Dave Moore on guitar and keyboards. Described by Paul Weller as a ‘cabaret’ act, the original front man has refused to join his former band mates for the reunion. However, currently working on new material and promising to play all our best loved hits from the original trio, this event should be one for the records. A must for all diehard fans of the Mod era.

On 7th July BILLY IDOL returns with the new single ‘John Wayne’. The track marks the release on 21st July of ‘The Very Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself’, a new career-spanning CD, Deluxe Edition CD/DVD and digital collection.
Of his new song ‘John Wayne’, Idol says, “When I’m singing it, I’m thinking about the characters John Wayne played. They were usually men with a flaw in their character or something dark in their past they’re trying to rise above before the end of the movie. So it’s not about the kick-in-the-door John Wayne or the barroom fight John Wayne — it’s more the man who overcomes.”
The single finds the man still at the peak of his powers, working with longtime partner and guitar great Steve Stevens, and his other current band members, drummer and songwriting collaborator Brian Tichy and keyboardist Derek Sherinian. Production duties come courtesy of rock heavyweight Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, 30 Seconds To Mars, Courtney Love).
‘The Very Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself’ gathers together the music that Billy Idol has taken to stages all around the world, and will bring to the UK for two dates this summer:
Wed 30 July – Manchester Apollo
Thurs 31 July – London Brixton Academy
‘John Wayne’ is available as a digital download on 07 July, and also features on ‘The Very Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself’ CD/DVD, out on 21 July.
The Bridgehouse 2
The room smells of testosterone and cheap hairspray when Californian based punk rockers Total Chaos burst into their first song ‘Dancing On Your Grave’ from their brand new album. There seems to be some lack of movement onstage, but they sound amazing. Rob Chaos delivers his lyrics with conviction and the beer soaked punk audience play their part. Few songs in and few bouncers come and stand in front of the band making sure there won’t be any extra Mohicans on stage. This causes a bit uneasy atmosphere since after all wasn’t punk supposed to break down these rock clichés. Songs such as ‘Attack’ offers their Motley Crue styled guitarist Shawn Smash the opportunity to show his great skills on hard rock soloing. ‘Complete Control’ was their anthem that was supposed to get them on heavy MTV rotation during the mid-90’s commercialisation of punk. Never happened, but surely the bands set and 18 year long career is a true testimony of great song writing. Not a weak song to be heard. Their first encore offers a great surprise. It’s none other than a punked up version of the infamous Monty Python song about the lumberjack wearing high heels! Almost needless to say that the audience also knows the lyrics to this song as well. Couple more classics in the form of ecstatic ‘Riot City’ and they finish off with ‘Boot Party’ sing-along and the leave the drunken audience to stagger fulfilled back into the London night.
